Chernobyl

April 26, 1986, at 01 hours and 23 minutes, in Chernobyl the most devastating nuclear accident in history occurred. More than 130,000 people were evacuated. Cities like Pripyat, with 43,000 inhabitants, were completely abandoned.

Twenty-eight years later the area is still highly contaminated and uninhabited.

It has been designated as an exclusion zone with a diameter of 30 km. In this area 200 people older than 50 years have returned to their homes. The city of Chernobyl is included in this zone and has a restaurant and active fire station. Children and pregnant women are not permitted in this area.

The second exclusion zone has a diameter of 10 km from Reactor 4. This area is highly contaminated and uninhabitable — it is where the nuclear plant stands. Also in this location lies the city of Pripyat, which had built an amusement park before the incident — one that was never inaugurated. Today you can visit this area but with security measures such as: do not eat or drink outside, do not smoke, do not touch anything, do not leave anything on the ground (bags, tripods, etc.).
